Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary - the incredible India

The sanctuary


Bandipur National Park is one of the most incredible parks of wild animals in the India. He was established in the year of 1931 by the maharajahs of Mysore as their private hunting park. Later in 1941 it was expanded by adjacent to Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarhole), Kerala Wayanad wildlife sanctuary and sanctuary in Tamil Nadu Mudumalai wildlife in the South to form the Niligiri biosphere reserve. Bandipur is located in the State of Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka in India and covers an area of around of 874.2 square kilometers.


Flora


The Park is densely populated with trees of teak, Honne, Nandi, palo de Rosa, sandalwood and bamboo Dindalu which contributes to the formation of its important part. The Park is watered by four rivers. There are some seasonal streams such as Wadli, Chammanahalla, Aidasanahattihalla, Hebballa, Warranchi, Chippanahalla and Mavinahalla. In addition to these seasonal flows, there are hundreds of ponds and small tanks which are well distributed throughout the area.


Fauna


National Park, Bandipur, the arrival of pre-monsoon showers brings harbinger of the flowering season in the month of March and April. This is the time when the resident birds start playback to complete his family and animals such as elephants and gaurs majestic wander freely in the Park Meadows. From April to October, it becomes heaven for visitors. One can easily detect various mammals, birds, Reptiles, amphibians during this season. During the summer season when dryness captures most of Bandipur, you can see the large gathering of animals near Kabini reservoir in the northwest part of the Park.

Some of the major animal species that they are in the Park are Tigers, leopards, elephants, Gaurs, Sambar, Chital, Barking deer, mouse deer, Hare of black hair, lazy beer, (Jaro), Langur, Bonnet Macaque, giant squirrel Indian wild dog, Chausingha, porcupines, slender Loris, Jungle Cat, cat of Leopard, Rusty spotted Cat, small Indian Civet, Palm Civet, common Otter, wild boar, Jackal, varieties of Mongoose, voladorasPangolines, fruit bats of giant and Hyena striped squirrels.


Other attractions


We have identified more than 230 species of birds in the Park are the main attraction of this park. Many species of reptiles including marsh crocodiles, Monitor, Rock lizards Russel, Cobras, rat snakes, vipers, Pythons Wolf, India snakes python, snake vine, common kraits, Keelbacks, bamboo pit vipers, green turtles, flying lizards also found in the Park.


Best time to go


Best time to visit Bandipur is during September to November. During the summers, it is recommended to be there in the months of May to June. In winter season, from October to March the climate is cool and pleasant is the ideal time to see wildlife.


Note: The Park is closed during the month of December. So visitors should plan your visit accordingly.


How to get there: there are three main mode of travel available throughout the year.


By train: The nearest station is the railway station of Nanjungud is 55 km away and is followed by the Mysore station at a distance of 80 kms.


Air: The closest airport to the Park is located in Mysore, which is 80 km from the Park. By road: the Park is located on the road which connects Mysore & Ooty. There are taxi and bus available from all the neighbouring cities service.


The weather is generally dry, wet and cold. The winter season begins in November and lasts until February. The winters are followed by a dry season until June. The rainy season begins with mid-June. Pleasantly rain during pre-monsoon in the months of April and may.
