The squirrel family

There are a variety of animals in the world that we have the ability to admire and look. But sometimes we overlook some of the simpler species. An animal which look quite frequently - but now understand much about the squirrel.


The squirrels are part of the family Sciuridae - also known as the rodent family. It is difficult to think of something as nice as this may be connected to the rats and mice. There are many different types of squirrels including the grey, tree and squirrels. Although called flying squirrels this type only can slide to jump from one place to another.


These animals are not able to digest the cellulose found in some foods. Because of this they have to take in the foods that have large amounts of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. During the spring time some nut who buried begin to shoot what makes them inaccessible for them to consume. When this happens they need to acquire the buds of trees to feed.


During the summer months they eat nuts, fruits, fungi, seeds, green vegetation and conifer cones. It is feasible to find some types of squirrels feed on insects, small birds, eggs, snakes and other rodents. However, commonly only do this when they are dying of hunger.


Many people can see squirrels running around their neighborhoods in search of food and climbing up and down trees. They can be favourable when it tries to provide them food and usually can be seen trying to steal food from bird feeders.
